EuMI: European Master in Informatics

Today I open a new section in my blog, the EuMI section, where I’ll write about the double degree program I’m going to follow starting from Septembre 2009.

It all started some months ago, about on April 2009, when I applied for the Erasmus program choosing Edinburgh as my preferred destination.

I won the scholarship (actually my application was the only one for one place available!), however I then had the opportunity to apply for the double degree in Informatics. This program, called EuMI (European Master in Informatics), allows students from Trento to go to the Edinburgh university (Scotland) and/or to Aachen university (Germany) thanks to the Erasmus Mundus program.

I thought, as other students suggested me to do, I could apply for the EuMI program and, in case of win, accept it, however I still had my Erasmus scholarship. This “trick” was unfortunately no more possible – maybe they noticed it? – because the results of the EuMI application were given after the deadline  for the acceptance of Erasmus scholarship…

Then, as the person responsible for the double degree program suggested me, I refused the Erasmus scholarship on March, 25th (when I got my bachelor degree), hoping to win the EuMI scholarship. Actually I could apply again for the Erasmus scholarship, because my scholarship, which I had refused, was put available again for other students. I decided however to not to apply again for the Erasmus program, because I had to do all the papers again and, most important, it seemed that the number of applications for the EuMI program was small compared to the available places.

Luckily all went good, therefore I won the EuMI scholarship and I will go to Edinburgh. I chose this city as preferred destination, instead of Aachen (Germany), because I would like to improve my English. It’s not true I don’t like German, I can speak it quite well, however English is surely more useful for me!

And now burocracy, payments, signatures and a lot of papers to write!
